Huntley Meadows Park is one of the area’s hidden gems. You may have past it so many times without even knowing.


The peaceful boardwalk trail winds through wetlands filled with wildlife, making it perfect for morning walks, photography, or simply getting outside for a quiet reset.

Located in Old Town, Torpedo Factory Art Center is home to local artist studios, galleries, and creative exhibits. This is a fun way to cool down to walk through the artist's galleries.


Originally a torpedo factory during World War II, the building is now one of Alexandria’s most unique waterfront destinations.

  1. Walk the Mount Vernon Trail & Go Kayaking

The Mount Vernon Trail is one of the best ways to enjoy summer views along the Potomac River.

You can walk, bike, or stop nearby at Belle Haven Marina for kayaking and paddleboarding during the warmer months. Kayak rentals start at $45/hour.


It makes for an easy and relaxing summer day outdoors.

We love visiting local farmers markets during the summer.

A few favorites include:


Fresh flowers, baked goods, local produce, and coffee always make for a good morning. If you go to the Mount Vernon Farmers Market, make sure to stop by The Traveling Shepherd for a coffee. He has some amazing brews from around the world.

For a quaint local experience, spend time exploring the Hollin Hall shopping area.

One longtime neighborhood favorite is The Variety Store, known for its nostalgic charm and unique finds. (The kids will LOVE this place!) The Village Hardware store and the Hollin Hall Pastry Shop are also must visits!
